Drinking more coffee may reverse liver damage from booze

Drinking more coffee might help lower the kind of liver damage that’s linked with excessive intake of food and alcohol, a review of existing studies suggests.

Researchers analysed data from nine previously published studies with a total of over 430,000 participants and discovered that drinking two additional cups of coffee a day was linked to a 44 percent lower risk of developing liver cirrhosis.

“Cirrhosis is potentially fatal and there is no cure as such,” said lead study author Dr. Oliver Kennedy of Southampton University in the UK.

“Therefore, it is significant that the risk of developing cirrhosis may be reduced by consumption of coffee, a cheap, ubiquitous and well-tolerated beverage,” Kennedy added by email.

Google Boss Becomes Highest Paid In US - See How Much He Earns

The chief executive of Google, Sundar Pichai, has been awarded $199m (£138m) in shares, a regulatory filing was revealed. This now puts him on top as the highest-paid chief executive in the United State.

Mr Pichai became chief executive of the most popular search engine Google, following the creation of its parent, Alphabet. Mr Pichai was awarded 273,328 Alphabet shares on 3 February, 2016 worth a total of $199m, according to a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission.

The new award of shares moves Mr Pichai’s total stock value to approximately $650m.

Mr Pichai’s share award will vest incrementally every quarter until 2019. In other words, complete control over the shares will be given to him on a gradual basis.

Broncos' Wade Phillips named NFL's assistant coach of year

France Has Banned Supermarkets From Wasting Food

Every year, 1.3 billion tonnes of food are thrown away worldwide, rather than being given to the needy and food banks. There's a gradual positive change to this though, kudos to a landmark ruling in France.

The French senate has banned supermarkets larger than 400 square meters (4,300 square feet) from binning unsold food, the first nation in the world to bring in such a ban. Instead, supermarkets will have to sign donation contracts with charities. The penalty for bosses not doing so is a fine of up to €75,000 (£58,000/$84,000), or two years imprisonment.

After winning the Billboard Hot 100 with her No. 1 single “Hello,” Adele is getting ready for another possible chart takeover with her second 25 single: “When We Were Young.”

“Young” -- which was confirmed as 25’s second single in December -- was released to streaming services on Feb. 5 for the first time (including Spotify, Apple Music and Google Play). It’s associated with a single artwork that features a photograph of Adele at her tender age.

Adele has already sent several live performances of “When We Were Young." Earth, Wind & Fire Co-Founder Maurice White Dead at 74

Sad news, love muffins.

Maurice White, the co-founder of beloved group Earth, Wind & Fire, has kicked the bucket. An icon indeed, He died in his sleep Thursday morning.

Maurice died in L.A. after a long battle with Parkinson’s.  He was diagnosed in 1992 and his condition deteriorated in recent months.  The disease had progressed to the point he was forced to stop touring in with the band 1994.

The band had a string of hits, including “Shining Star,” “September,” “Boogie Wonderland,” and “After the Love has Gone.” 

Maurice’s brother, Verdine, is also a band member. 

Although Maurice wasn't touring, he remained involved in the decisions involving the band.

Maurice was 74.
