Interesting! Man plays his guitar during brain surgery (Photos)

What do you call this as a 33-year old Brazilian man is making international headlines after playing The Beatles’s 'Yesterday' on the guitar while having brain surgery. Often times surgeries has always been done while the patient is asleep but the man, Anthony Kulkamp Dias was kept conscious during his operation to remove a tumour and played the British classic for the surgery team.
He also played 'Emanuel', a song he wrote for his newborn son, as well as Brazilian country songs.
Speaking on the feat, Kulkamp said “the doctors asked me to repeat one of the country songs so I even had an encore"

Reports Kulkamp, who played guitar professionally for 20 years, discovered the tumour 15 days after his son was born a few months ago, adding that he could not even say the name of his car and was stammering as a result.
Telegraph reports that Kulkamp underwent surgery while conscious, and played a guitar balanced on his stomach.
Said Kulkamp,
“I played six songs at certain times,” he said. “My right hand was a bit weaker because that was the side that they were operating on. So I stopped and rested. I was interspersing songs and talking with them.”
The pioneering surgery allowed doctors to safely map the patient’s brain while awake to avoid injury that could compromise important brain functions.
Speaking on why Kulkamp was kept awake for the surgery, Dr Jean Abreu Machado, clinical director, said:
“By keeping the patient awake during surgery, these areas can be monitored in real time. A kind of mapping of important areas can be done. It really is a great challenge for the whole surgery team, including the anaesthetist.”
He added that the brain tissue does not have pain sensors but the skin and other structures do.

Six men gang-raped two sisters in Lagos

Two sisters identified as Essiet, 18, and Debby, 20, (nicknames) were raped by a gang of six men at Ogundero/ Dahomey street in the Bariga area of Lagos state on Thursday May 28th. According to Punch, the sisters were returning from the hospital when they were stopped by the hoodlums. 4 of the men raped Essiet who was a virgin while two of the hoodlums raped Debby.
While narrating what happened, Essiet said
“It happened on May 21 around 11pm. My sister and I went to give food to a family member who had just given birth to a baby in Oworonsoki. We were returning in the night when we saw the men. They had guns, cutlasses and other weapons. They waylaid us and said if we shouted they would kill us. They took us to a spot around Dahomey junction and raped us.”
Debby who is older, described the incident as a sad experience
"Two of them raped me, while four raped my sister. The third man wanted to rape me when a car approached. They all ran away. It was a painful experience. I have taken different medications and visited the hospital as well.”
Meanwhile one of the hoodlums was arrested a day after the incident as Derby was able to identify him while he was passing through the same street where they were raped. Another one was also arrested.

"We were able to recognize him because when they were raping us, he took my phone and also shouted at me to stop looking at him. We saw his face clearly. I just want them to go to jail for what they have done to us.”

When interrogated, the suspects, 21 year old Mayowa Adeniji and 25 year old Riliwan Oladapo denied been involved in the crime.

One of them Mayowa, who claims to be a singer, said he was at a Night club when he and the other suspect, Dapo were arrested

“I am an artiste by profession and my stage name is D. Dot. I have released several albums that are being aired on radio stations. I have been doing music for the past 11 years and I have done collaborations with many artistes in this country. Though I am a street guy, I know what I am doing. On the day the police came to arrest me, I was having fun with my back-up artiste and there were five girls at my beck and call. I didn’t know why they came to arrest me until I got to the station and saw these small girls saying we raped them. I have never met them in my life and I don’t know what they are talking about.”he said...

A family member of the victims, Christopher Iheme, said they are pained by the fact that their daughter, Essiet lost her virginity to the rapists. According to him, family members of the suspects have been begging them not to take the case to the next level.
“We have spent a lot of money on their treatment. But that is not the issue. It is painful for us because the 18-year-old was deflowered by the gang. We are worried that her elder sister might be pregnant. But we will take her to the hospital for a checkup. The families of the two suspects have been begging and asking us to name our price. But we want them punished to serve as a deterrence to others like them,” he said.

Lagos state Police spokesperson, Kenneth Nwosu while confirming the incident said "“We have arrested the suspects and transferred them to the Department of Criminal Investigation, Panti, Yaba. I am also aware that the detectives have taken the suspects to court”.

This is what brings joy to life!

Relationships are really what makes the world go 'round, aren't they? I
mean, good, positive, healthy and meaningful relationships provide us with
the richest experiences we have here on this old earth of ours. Your loving
spouse who shares everything with you; that best friend who connects with
you like few others do; the people at work who appreciate you and help you
to become the best that you can be; This is what brings joy to life!
But... relationships can also be the bane of our existence! What really brings
more pain in this life than a broken relationship, especially when it isn't
just broken but downright ugly!
So, it behooves us to do all that we can to keep our relationships zipping
right along, doesn't it? If we put our very best into our relationships we
can almost guarantee getting the very best out of our relationships!
Through the years I have spent hundreds of hours working with people in
their relationships: Marriages, friendships, working relationships and
social relationships. Through it all I have seen some wonderful things and
some terrible things. It truly is the good, the bad and the ugly!
But I have been able to find three core elements of successful
relationships. These are things that, when done over time, begin to create
for you the kinds of relationships that you truly desire. They are the kinds
of relationships you have always dreamed of.
The key to remembering these three items is the acronym Z.I.P. Z.I.P. stands
for three things you can do - and begin to do immediately - to improve any
and all of your relationships. They are:
Put some ZEST into your relationships.
Cultivate more INTIMACY in your relationships.
Develop a PURPOSE in your relationships.
Let's take a closer look at each of these three:
Put some ZEST into your relationships.
By Zest, I primarily mean fun. Relationships were meant to be fun! We wouldn
't have been made with the capacity to have fun if relationships weren't
supposed to have a little zest in them!
Think about it: Don't you usually start out most healthy relationships with
a lot of fun times. Whether it is going out to dinner or a ballgame, or
spending time playing a game or even just a lively talk, you usually have
fun as a major part of the relationship. Fun is some of the glue that bonds
the relationship.
But as life goes on, specifically in a marriage, but in all relationships
really, the fun starts to go by the wayside. More and more it is about
getting the job done, whatever the job may be.
To restore the relationship, to put a little zip into it, we need to
reintroduce the idea of "zest."
What about you? Have you lost the zest? What can you do to get it back?
Think of a specific relationship you have: What were the fun things you did
at the beginning of the relationship that acted as the glue that bonded you
together? Now, commit to doing those again and see if your relationship
doesn't begin to soar again! If you can, develop new fun things to do
together so you can both start an adventure of fun together!

Cultivate more INTIMACY in your relationships.
First a couple of clarifications: One, I don't just mean intimacy in the
currently common understanding, that is, sexual intimacy. I mean for all
intents and purposes, taking your relationship to a deeper level. Second, I
don't mean that you have to start doing group hugs with your workmates or
having revelation sessions where the tissue flows freely.
What I do mean is that every relationship that is mutually satisfying has a
level of depth to it that provides meaning. This is really what the search
is for in our relationships: meaning.
Remember when you first started your relationship, whether with your spouse
or friend. All of that time was spent opening up, telling who you are, where
you were from, what your likes and dislikes are. There was a deep sense of
satisfaction with the relationship - that is why it continued. You liked who
they were and you enjoyed being known by them.
But then something happens. We get to a certain level and the pursuit of
depth ends. We stop sharing feeling, likes, and dislikes. We stop sharing
joys and dreams and fears. Instead, we settle into routine. The daily grind
takes over and we stop knowing one another and we simply exist together. Now
don't get me wrong, every time you get together doesn't have to be deep.
Remember, I am the one who advocates in the previous paragraphs just having
plain old fun sometimes. But there is a need for regular times of intimate
connection where we go deeper with others.
This is particularly hard for many of the male species like myself but it is
not only possible but healthy and needed! If we want to have the kinds of
relationship we were made to have, we have to open ourselves up to having
others know us and for us to know others.
True meaningful relationships come when we are loved and accepted for whom
we are at our core, not simply for acting the right way in our relationships
so as to keep the other person in it.
Think about the relationships you would like to see improvement in. Take
some time in the coming weeks and months to spend time just talking and
getting to a deeper level in your relationship. Specifically, let the other
person deeper into your world. You can't force the other person to be more
intimate and you certainly can't say, "Let's get together and have an
intimate conversation," because that would be too contrived. But you can
make a decision for yourself that you will let others into your world.
Perhaps this will be the catalyst for them doing the same.
You can guard yourself from intimacy but then you won't go much deeper and
you will feel a longing in your heart for more, or you can begin the
deepening process and see your relationships change for the better.
Develop a PURPOSE in your relationships.
The most meaningful relationships we have are those that are held together
by a common purpose and vision for what the relationship can accomplish, not
only for those involved but also for a greater good.
Let's face it, when people have a common purpose they feel like they are
part of a team and they feel bound together in that relationship. Even when
people may be disappointed in the people they are in relationship with, if
they have a purpose, such as raising the children, they are much more likely
to stick it out. Purpose creates bonds.
So what happens if we are proactively involved in seeking out a common
purpose with those who we want to have a relationship with or those who we
already have a relationship with but we would like to see it go deeper with?
Well, it gets better and stronger.
Think about your strongest relationships. Aren't they centered around at
least one area of purpose or a common goal?
What about a relationship that has cooled? Think back and see if perhaps you
used to have a common purpose but it has gone by the wayside.
And what of your desire to see a relationship grow? Take some time to begin
to cultivate a common purpose. Sit down with that person and tell them that
you would like to have some common goals, some purposes that you pursue
together. As you develop these, you will see your relationship strengthen in
ways you never imagined!
Let's recap: You want your relationships to show a little "zip?" Then put a
little Z.I.P. in them:
Put some ZEST into your relationships.
Cultivate more INTIMACY in your relationships.
Develop a PURPOSE in your relationships.

Shettima speaks of the release of Chibok schoolgirls

Shettima_7
Borno State Governor Kashim Shettima is expectant that the Chibok schoolgirls would be salvaged, noting that he would not compromise on the release of the girls kidnapped by Boko Haram almost a year ago.
Shettima, in a televised media chat yesterday in Maiduguri, said the Chibok girls case often cause him to tears. The governor said he remained hopeful that the schoolgirls will be rescued.

“The Chibok girls issue is really very sad; no responsible parent would be happy with what happened to those poor girls. But like I said earlier, hope springs eternally from the heart of men. Only an insane parent will give up on a missing child. We believe quite passionately and realistically that these poor girls would be found. We have been working hard with some international agencies towards their rehabilitation, trauma management and how they can be made to pick up the pieces of their lives once we get them,” he said.
Gov. Shettima said the Chibok case was one issue that has caused so much heartache not only to the parents of the girls, or the people of Borno, but Nigerians. He said the girls might be in Sambisa.
“We believe that at the risk of compromising their safety, the hopeful assessment of most security agencies, is that probably they may be in the Sambisa Forest which is very large. Hitherto, we heard they were being held around the Gwoza and Damboa axis. But for now, Damboa, especially the township, has been recovered and is relatively safe, Gwoza has been recaptured, so our hopeful assessment is that probably the girls are in the Sambisa Forest,” he said.
The governor said his administration has created strong political will leading to community involvement in fighting insurgency. “We provide modest leadership,” he stated.

Ambode Vs Agbaje: who would your vote go for as Lagos State governor?

The die is cast between Akinwunmi Ambode and Jimi Agbaje

On Mid-day Teaser today, we want to know who would your vote go for between Akinwunmi Ambode and Jimi Agbaje in the Lagos State gubernatorial election.

Apparently, both contestants are ready to slug it out tomorrow, April 11, 2015, as they have been vigorous in their campaigns.

PDP accuses APC for making plans to rig Lagos polls

PDP's Jimi Agbaje and APC's Akinwunmi Ambode are contending for the Governorship of Lagos State

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of plotting to rig the governorship and House of Assembly elections in Lagos State.
The PDP also said that the APC is planning to unleash violence if its governorship candidate, Akinwunmi Ambode loses the election.

The allegations were made on Thursday, April 9, 2015 by the Lagos PDP Publicity Secretary, Taofik Gani.
Gani said that the APC was planning to use some persons who would impersonate National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members, security agents and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) personnel to rig the elections.
“These persons will wear the uniforms of youth corps members, various security agents and be present as official INEC electoral officers. The APC has concluded plans to deploy these impersonators to identified polling units where the official INEC officers, security agents and corps members will be compromised to concede their functions,” Gani alleged.
The governorship and State House of Assembly elections are slated to hold across Nigeria on Saturday, April 11, 2015.

Man beats wife to stupor for over-celebrating election result

Man beating his wife

The presidential and National Assembly elections held on Saturday, March 28, 2015, resulted to be a disaster for the family of Raphael Abiodun, a commercial motorcyclist popularly known as Okada rider, after he  allegedly beat his wife, Bose, to a stupor for over-celebrating the outcome of a result in their local government.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that Abiodun was bitter when the results in their Igangu area of Omu-Aran in Irepodun local government area of Kwara State, came out in favour of candidates his wife supported in the House of Representatives and Senatorial elections and she purportedly celebrated a bit too much.
The action of the wife was said to have got her husband off-head and couldn't control it, he descended on her and beat her so bad that he got her injured on several spots.
It took the intervention of neighbours and some commercial motorcyclists in the area to salvage the situation from degenerating further.
According to an eyewitness, Abiodun accused his wife of not being sympathetic with him on the negative outcome of the elections for his party.

President Goodluck Jonathan

Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has released a statement following the his loss at the recently conducted Presidential elections. He will be leaving office on May 29, 2015.
In his statement, the Nigerian leader thanked Nigerians for voting, urges those who have issues with the election results to follow due process and stated he had sent his 'personal best wishes' to the winner of the elections, General Muhammadu Buhari.
Jonathan also told his PDP colleagues that this should be a time to celebrate rather than mourn.

Fellow Nigerians,
I thank you all for turning out en-masse for the March 28 General Elections. I promised the country free and fair elections. I have kept my word. I have also expanded the space for Nigerians to participate in the democratic process. That is one legacy I will like to see endure.
Although some people have expressed mixed feelings about the results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), I urge those who may feel aggrieved to follow due process based on our constitution and our electoral laws, in seeking redress.
As I have always affirmed, nobody’s ambition is worth the blood of any Nigerian. The unity, stability and progress of our dear country is more important than anything else.
I congratulate all Nigerians for successfully going through the process of the March 28th General Elections with the commendable enthusiasm and commitment that was demonstrated nationwide.
I also commend the Security Services for their role in ensuring that the elections were mostly peaceful and violence-free.
To my colleagues in the PDP, I thank you for your support. Today, the PDP should be celebrating rather than mourning. We have established a legacy of democratic freedom, transparency, economic growth and free and fair elections.
For the past 16 years, we have steered the country away from ethnic and regional politics. We created a Pan-Nigerian political party and brought home to our people the realities of economic development and social transformation.
Through patriotism and diligence, we have built the biggest and most patriotic party in Nigerian history. We must stand together as a party and look to the future with renewed optimism.
I thank all Nigerians once again for the great opportunity I was given to lead this country and assure you that I will continue to do my best at the helm of national affairs until the end of my tenure.
I have conveyed my personal best wishes to General Muhammadu Buhari.
May God Almighty continue to bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
I thank you all.

See what she said openly about her husband - Patience Jonathan

As the campaign continues at the PDP women rally in Illorin, Kwara state yesterday March 17th, First Lady Patience Jonathan said PDP and her husband are the messiahs Nigerians need

"Nigerian women, if they (APC) come, tell them that your mother said you should not listen to them. They have nothing to offer. They have nothing to give you, Nigerian women; because the battle has already been conquered, God has opened the way for us. God has brought down the messiah for us. And PDP is the messiah. Goodluck is the messiah. I am a person that will tell the truth. I will not abuse people, but if you are old you are old, so leave it to younger people. What are we going to take expired drug to do? Have you seen anywhere where APC cured any person? If you vote and drink it and die, it is not my business. Don't go near APC. It is an expired drug and an adulterated drug"s following his statement.
